Connect ChatGPT to reshare
ChatGPT can publish files through reshare directly. Add https://mcp.reshare.one/mcp as a custom MCP server, approve the sign-in once, and from then on "publish this as a link" hands back a link.reshare.one URL in the conversation. No canvas export, no copy and paste, no file to save.
The connector needs a paid ChatGPT plan with Developer mode, or a Business or Enterprise workspace where an owner has turned custom servers on. Everything else is a free reshare account.
Or drop a file the old way
Free.
How it works
- 01
Turn on Developer mode
In ChatGPT open Settings, then Security and login, and switch on Developer mode. On builds from earlier in 2026 the switch sits under Settings, Connectors, Advanced instead. In a Business or Enterprise workspace an owner has to enable it for everyone first.
- 02
Add reshare as a custom MCP server
Open the Plugins page (older menus call it Connectors or Apps), press the plus button, and choose Add custom MCP server. Name it reshare, paste https://mcp.reshare.one/mcp as the server URL, set Authentication to OAuth, accept the warning, and create it.
- 03
Sign in once, then ask
ChatGPT opens the reshare sign-in. Approve it and the connector shows as connected. In a new chat, pick reshare from the plus menu or type @reshare, then say "publish this page as a link." The reply contains the URL.
Connector or copy and paste?
| reshare | Copying from canvas | |
|---|---|---|
| Steps to publish | One sentence in the chat | Export or copy, save as .html, open reshare, drop, sign in, copy the link |
| Updating a page you already sent | "Publish this to the same link." New version, same URL | Repeat every step, then find the right link in the dashboard |
| Files other than HTML | Markdown, CSV, text, and any file ChatGPT can hand over | Only what you can save to disk yourself |
| Where the link appears | In the ChatGPT reply, ready to paste | In a separate browser tab |
The manual route still works and needs no plan beyond free ChatGPT. See the page on publishing HTML from ChatGPT.
What you can ask ChatGPT to do
The connector exposes reshare as a set of tools. ChatGPT can create a link from a file or from text it just wrote, push a new version to an existing link, list your links, rename one, set a link preview image, turn comments or the badge on and off, add a password, set an auto-disable date, read view counts, and delete an old version. Deleting a link itself stays a human action in the dashboard.
Plain requests work best: "publish this report as a link", "update the pricing page I shared yesterday", "how many people opened the deck?" ChatGPT picks the tool.
Why the sign-in works with nothing to configure
reshare is a standard remote MCP server over HTTPS with OAuth 2.1. The server publishes its protected resource metadata, the authorization server supports dynamic client registration and PKCE with S256, and tokens are checked on every request. Those are the three things ChatGPT looks for, so Authentication: OAuth is the only setting you choose. ChatGPT registers itself as a client during the first sign-in; there is no client ID to copy and no secret to paste.
The connection is tied to your reshare account. Files it publishes land in the same dashboard as manual uploads, and you can disconnect it from ChatGPT at any time.
Plans and limits
Free ChatGPT cannot add custom MCP servers. Plus and Pro can, through Developer mode. Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces can once an owner enables it; some guides from mid 2026 report that tools which write data are limited to those workspaces, so if a publish fails on an individual plan, that is the first thing to check.
ChatGPT only talks to remote servers over HTTPS, which reshare is. On the reshare side the free plan covers 5 links with up to 5 versions each and files up to 30 MB; Pro removes the caps.
If the menu looks different
OpenAI renamed this area twice in 2026: Connectors became Apps, then Plugins. Guides written in between disagree about labels, and the Developer mode switch moved from Connectors to Security and login. The parts that have not changed are the plus button and a field asking for a server URL. Wherever you find those, paste https://mcp.reshare.one/mcp.
If you connected before reshare added a tool, open the connector in the Plugins page and press Refresh, then start a new conversation. ChatGPT reads the tool list when the connection is created and caches it.
When canvas is good enough
If you publish once a month, the manual route is fine: ask for a single HTML file, save it, drop it on reshare. The connector pays off when pages change often, when the same link has to stay valid, or when the output is not HTML at all. A weekly report that ChatGPT regenerates from new numbers is the textbook case.
